Storm Boris Claims 18 Lives in Europe

At least 18 people have died in flooding caused by Storm Boris in Central and Eastern Europe.

 

In Poland, four people have died due to flood-related incidents. A month-long state of natural disaster has been declared in the areas worst hit by flooding. More than 5,000 troops have been deployed to support people in the southern part of the country.

 

In Romania, seven people have died, and a state of emergency has been declared for one of the worst-affected regions until 16 October.

 

In the Czech Republic, three people have died, and more than 13,000 people have been evacuated. A state of emergency has been declared in two north-eastern regions.

 

In Austria, four people died, and thousands of households were without electricity and water in Lower Austria.

 

The River Danube is rising in Slovakia and Hungary, with water levels in Slovakia exceeding 9 meters over the weekend and expected to rise further.
