Julian Assange Pleads Guilty To Conspiring In US Defence Documents Case, Freed From Espionage Charges

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has been freed from the espionage case after he officially pleaded guilty to a single charge of conspiring to obtain and disclose classified US defence documents in the Saipan court of Northern Mariana Islands, US.

The US court has accepted Assange’s 62-month prison time served in the United Kingdom as his sentence. Reading out the sentence of the WikiLeaks founder, Judge Manglona reiterated that the US government has agreed not to pursue any other prosecutions against him for the 2010 espionage case.

Earlier, Assange was freed from a UK prison after a deal with the US Justice Department to plead guilty in a US court. The deal also included a tentative condition that Assange would spend no time in US custody and would walk free, ending the prolonged 14-year-old legal battle.
