In France, Yaël Braun-Pivet from Emmanuel Macron’s centrist party has been re-elected as the speaker of the National Assembly with 220 votes.

 

The election was closely contested against veteran communist lawmaker André Chassaigne, who received 207 votes after three rounds of voting. This comes after recent elections left no single group with a majority in the lower house of parliament.
