British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has joined the leaders of the United States and France in voicing support for India’s bid for a permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). Addressing the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, Mr. Starmer called for reforms to make the global multilateral system more representative and responsive. Bhutan’s Prime Minister, Tshering Tobgay, also voiced support for India’s inclusion as a permanent member of the UNSC. During his address at UNGA, Prime Minister Tobgay said India, with its significant economic growth and leadership in the Global South, deserves a permanent seat at the Security Council. Earlier this week, French President Emmanuel Macron and United States President Joe Biden also backed India’s bid for a permanent seat on the Security Council.
